Summit Background
The steel industry remains a foundation of the global economy, supporting infrastructure, manufacturing, and technology. As efficiency and sustainability become priorities, the sector is rapidly advancing production technologies to reduce energy use and operating costs. North America leads in sustainable steelmaking, with the lowest average carbon intensity per ton globally. This is driven by a strong reliance on electric arc furnace (EAF) technology—now used in 70% of regional production—and robust recycling practices that recover over 80 million metric tons of scrap steel annually. Looking ahead, the focus is on optimizing processes, enhancing resource efficiency, and staying competitive in a shifting global market. Yet, key challenges remain—particularly in modernizing energy infrastructure and aligning cross-border policies. The North American Green Steel Summit (NAGSS) 2025 will bring together industry leaders to explore pathways toward a low-carbon future. Through discussions on technology, policy, and collaboration, the event aims to drive actionable strategies that strengthen North America's leadership in green steel and support the global push for sustainable development.
